i blame myself. and the garmin. and the New Glarus Imperial Weiss.
i set out for my first tempo run feeling a little hung over. things went ok through the 10 minute slower portion, then things fell apart. i was supposed to kick up to a 5mile race pace, and i did, i thought. the garmin said i was running a marathon pace. "SPEED UP!" so i did. it still said 26.2 pace. "SPEED UP!" again, i pushed harder. it was as fast as I could run.
i guess the garmin lost the sattelites or something. or hated me. or was attacked by a gnome.
i couldn't hold that fast pace for the prescribed 15min. gizmo said it was LSD (long slow distance run) pace. my head started hurting and the hangover kicked in hard and i wasn't going to make it. i walked to try to pull my heart rate down. the garmin said my walk was at 26.2 pace. then i tried again to hit 5 mi pace, and again, it said LSD. couldn't be right. or maybe the beer... naw. it wasn't right.
in the end, the gizmo said 3 miles, 30 minutes. mile 1 in 10:00 exactly, mile 2 in 15:00 exactly, mile 3 in 5:00 exactly. technology ruined my run. dammit.
off to work in Puerto Rico for a week. NO, it won't be fun/vacation and i'll be lucky to see the light of day after 14 hours a day of hard, on-my-feet work.

I would probably break mine if I had a garmin. The chick I ran with in the trails on Monday had one that kept beeping. It drove me nuts.
I hope PR isn't too horrible. Maybe you'll get out for a nice run on the beach....
