more miles.

I've decided that the mileage on the training plan is just too low.

The latest Runner's World says that women who run generally need to log 30 miles a week to lose weight. I have this wedding thing staring me down and would like to lose another 8 lb before hand. So, I'm increasing the Tue/Thu workouts to 5 mi, and increasing the long run to whatever I have time for.

That's the hitch: because I'm officiating at crits n' things, my weekends are packed. For example, Sherman Park on Saturday. Report time is 7am and I'll be there, on my feet, until 5pm. Ain't no way I'll run after that. So it's either log my miles before that, or shift the rest day. I'm doing the later, and I'll do my long run on Friday before work and squeeze my Saturday miles in on Sunday before heading out to officiate the time trial.

Anyway.

Ben has come to the realization that he needs to get up and do his workouts- usually ~2 hours - before work. This morning, he was up and out by 5:15am. Lucky him, he found a bike to work week stop and got free coffee on the way home. Either way, if this continues, my mileage is going to go way up. Once he's up, Molly's up, which means I'm up. With nearly 3 hours of running time available in the morning, 5 miles seems like a waste.

i say just get up and run when hes up-can you put in more miles in the morning before work and time to just wake up (my hardest problem) and your weekends would be set for just other things. i did my 3rd run yesterday, my right leg cramps up more in the shine, not sure if its bc i gottas a screw in my toe?

I think early AM is where it's at training wise too. It's just hard to do the 5am thing after laying in bed with Dominic eating and watching TV till midnight.

30 mile weeks sound good. Maybe one day you'll get to those weights.

funny you should mention weights, Judi. just after starting, i hurt my finger.. and it's still huge 3 weeks later. i guess i should do something about that. either way, though, it stopped the weight training. boo.

I woke up early this morning and did my 2 hrs before work...wow, hard. But then I did 2 hrs last night too. So I'm tired. But morning workouts seem like a good idea. I might switch so I can my afternoons to enjoy the outside and relax a bit. But man 4:30 came way to early!

yeah, i've always been a morning workout person. i find I have way too many excuses by the time the workday is over, and I end up never doing the workout at all... or the intensity i should. 430's damn early though... you win!
