stuff.

...my nephew is turning 1 in a week or so. I love getting first birthday gifts, particularly because I'm not a mother and thus can believe in things like Toys Children Should Play With (because I played with them and look at how well I turned out). I usually stick with Brio - the pounding table and the Squiddo and such. I love colorful little wooden things. Hooray for dead trees! And of course I buy 1 year-olds gifts made for 1 1/2 year olds, since EVERY child I know is "advanced for their age," just as mine will be.

...recent conversations about the rules in cycling have surfaced some attitude problems that make me recall a thing sailors have called Corinthian Spirit. Whether or not you were good at sailing, if you were a friendly person, you would win awards in this category. It was the first tenet of sailing taught in classes and included things like respecting the fact that this is something we do for fun, and that you're not racing to save the life of your firstborn, and that, at the end of the day, the most important thing is that we're happy, we're safe, and we can respect eachother.

I'm sure there's a similar award/tenet out there for cycling. Anyone? If not, let me dig up some Sponsor Product and see if we can't have a Spirit Preme or somesuch. Stay tuned.

...I need to learn to read the pill bottle BEFORE I take the pills. Last night I noticed that the bottle of anti-inflammatory I've been taking for my finger for, well, like 2 weeks says, "USING WITH ALCOHOL COULD BE RISKY!" um. We all know I'm like a chocoholic but for beer. I sort of giggled to myself, though. Risky? (My best interest? How do you know what my best interest is?)

... wear sunscreen.

... and finally, last night, B14 and I ran together. It was awesome fun. I hope we do that more often. After that, Ben said he wanted to make pie, so we made pie. We only had whole wheat flour in the house, though, and I'm not a big fan of how my crust turned out, but the fresh blueberries and lemon zest... mmm... happy summer.

I used to like it when the bottle said "alcohol may intensify this affect".

yes, congratulations, Chris! I'm sure the little one will love having a 10-below-zero birthday party.
