noncommittal change of plans.

ok, so i'm tentatively adding the Fox Cities Marathon to my schedule, and as of today I'm switching from the half marathon training plan to the full marathon Novice 2 plan, week 8. (Look at me!! I'm a Novice 2! )

I don't have a set goal time, but I'd like to be under 4:45 and I'd be quite happy to be in the 4:30 range. We'll see. I'm still going to run the Chicago Distance Classic and I'm still hoping for under 2:20 with a stretch-goal of 2:10. Now it'll just fit into week 13 of 18 instead of being the goal race. The really funny thing... the 20 miler falls on my wedding day. I guess we can assume I'll just do that on the Thursday before instead.

And coincidentally... marathon #2 will also be small (fewer than 5,000) and in a small town. I was thinking that I don't really like the races where there's lots of traffic. I'm a solo runner and having just a few folks is just fine with me.

4:45 is a good goal. You can do that, no problem, piece of cake girlie.

yeah. i know i can run a 10:19 comfortably, but with walk breaks n' such it would be pushing to reach for a 4:30. i'll see what's possible.

Horray for Novice 2! I have no idea what that means, but good luck, I hope you do awesome on the updated training plan.

sorry Regina, bad runner joke. Last marathon i used Novice 1. I "graduated" to novice 2. which is exactly the same, just a few more miles. but hey, progress....

I say when you do your 2nd marathon you get to call yourself a marathoner instead of a runner. Congrats on the Novice 2! I'm doing the Novice Supreme and just crossed into the Novice 1 part of it 2 weeks ago. I'm still trucking along on that program right now, regardless of which distance I do in October. AND, if I do the half in Oct, then I'll be doing a full in May. Either Green Bay or Bayshore. So I won't be slacking, just extending the training time. I think I remember you saying (yes, I have an imaginary voice for you) that you should have done a half first to drop weight, and then did all of your full training at the better weight.

Amy, I totally agree- 1 marathon and you've run a marathon, 2 and you can do the "marathoner" thing. 3 and...

and yeah, i think it's hard to lose weight on a marathon plan. but I still wish you'd stuck to the full marathon this fall! You can do it! This is sort of a longer conversation than fits in these here comments, but while I didn't lose a ton of weight on the marathon plan, I did get lots of confidence and dedication and such. It definitely made me keep running, which has made me keep losing weight...
