the second marathon. it's sort of secondary.

I knew that training for a second marathon wouldn't be as exciting, life-consuming, or exhilarating as training for the first, but I didn't quite expect this. Here I am, halfway into training, not registered for a race yet, changing my mind about which one to do, and sort of not focusing on it at all. I'm getting the miles in, but that's about it.

Maybe it's that #1 was at the end of winter, when there was nothing else going on, as opposed to the summer's cycling and wedding planning. Mostly it's that I've been there, done that, and while I'm doing more mileage this time and running faster, it's just that I'm not hitting personal-best distances. Instead of reserving Saturdays for long runs, I'm fitting the long runs in before work, or the day after a bike race, or something.

It's also been hard seeing my pace drop when I switched from training for a half to training for a full. Makes it look like I've been slowing down, which is sort of not the best feeling.

I'm just sort of not motivated right now. Bought a new pair of running shoes last week and they're just sitting in the box while I run in my old pairs until I "earn" rotating them in. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy the running I do. It's just the goal of Marathon Two that I'm not entirely invested in. I want to do it. I just don't want it nearly as badly as I wanted #1.

If you really haven't settled on a fall race yet, you should consider GR. Its not too far from you and has nothing but amazing things said about it. You get a DVD in the mail after the race, the director shakes your hand when you finish, and its pretty fast I hear.

Plus it run by a major beer enthusiast. I hear the free beer at the end is from New Holland Brewing Co, which is a crazy good brewery over here.

That looks awesome and I LOVE New Holland (which brings a portable dance floor and Elvis look alike to every beer festival!) but unfortunately October won't work for me- I'm sort of bouncing between mid-September dates. Right now I think it's the Louis and Clark Marathon or the Fox Cities Marathon, leaning toward the former.

I hear you about the second marathon. I still haven't decided on my 2nd one and can't quite get motivated. If it weren't for a half in a month, I'm not sure if I would get out there for long runs.

I'm sure once you decide on which race you're running, you'll get into gear. Good luck!

You're getting married! You have every right not to be as focused this time, and that's ok. You enjoy running, so just run. Follow your schedule and have fun.
