since i haven't done anything athletic since last Thursday, this post is about getting married.
Yesterday, my mother confirmed - after asking her 4 weeks ago to look for it- that she couldn't find my social security card, which I swear she has. Then, I happened upon the requirements for a Milwaukee County marriage license and realized we have till Friday to get it, and we have to present birth certificates and social security cars. Panic ensued.
It's lucky that I live and work in the same neighborhood as the Social Security office. During lunch I walked over there, hoping to get a Social Security card. After waiting about 20 minutes though, I got a printout with my # on it and a promise of a card in 2-3 weeks. By this point I was somewhat hysterical.
Back to the office, called the Milwaukee County Courthouse. They'll accept the printout. Still, we'll need to take off work Friday and go up in person. I dropped some "Amtrak Rewards" points and got Ben and I free roundtrips on the train, and we'll be drinking champagne from a plastic cup on a mid-day jaunt to the North. Hopefully we'll make this fun.

I don't know how much you know Milwaukee, but here's a few suggestions for food/drink while you're up there.
la Fuente (S 5th) Best Mexican in Milwaukee, famous for blue margaritas
Tres Hermanos (W National) Most Authentic
Von Trier (N Farwell) Very German bar, good selection
Jalisco (E North Ave) Couple blocks from Von Trier, good food not too pricey
Landmark (N Farwell) Across the street from Von Trier, good bar
Pizza Man (E North Ave) Few blocks east of Von Trier, best Italian food in Milw, OK pizza, a lot of wines by the glass.
Oakland Gyros (N Oakland) Best gyros in Milw, coupla college bars on the block best one being Axels
Karl Ratzsch's (E Mason) Best German in Milw or Chicago, right downtown, swanky
Maders (N 3rd) Bigger name German restaurant not quite as good or as nice, across the street from the Usinger factory
If you do nothing else, take a cooler bag with you and stop at the Usinger factory to get some fresh brats to take home. Ask for the 'scratch and dents' or 'seconds' whatever they call it. It's basically the links that didn't get made perfectly like too long or too short or got cut from the others instead of still strung together. Last time I was there they were selling them for less than half what the 'nice' ones cost.
Hey, don't forget to go dutch on the marriage license, just like "Breaking Away!"
Deep Breaths, it will all work out and fall into place.
damn girl, i would be a freaking wreck. stay cool, everything will work out.
i really hope you aren't in vegas this week tho.
I need to go get a new card. I never did after I changed my name.
