In the pit on Sunday I ended up next to the Vanilla guys, who sported "custom" grey rubber boots with pink Speedvagen logos on them. After bike washes my little Rock Lobster was clean but not 100%, but those white Vanillas were totally spotless.
"How do you guys get your bikes so darn clean?"
"Crisco," Sacha replied.
"But that stuff is so heavy!"
To this moment I'm not sure if he was kidding, though I'm pretty sure he was. Watching them throw those bikes around gave me an odd feeling of satisfaction. Bikes aren't built to be put in display cases.

crisco!! i will try it soon and report back
I was taught early on from a PRO mechanic that bikes are tools, use them that way. It doesn't mean to mistreat them, but yes they do get dirty and scratched and dented.
Pam is to Crisco as Lol is to LooooooL!
Julie thanks for the comment. I really want to go to KC but I was unsure about my work schedule. Also I didn't have anyone to drive the 12hrs with me. And I missed registration. If they allowed day of reg, i might actually go out there.
maybe next year
My friend used to use pledge for his mtn bike. Wipe on a rag, then on the bike. Kind of creates a protective film. I tried for my commuter and thought it worked pretty good. I was not diligint enough to really test it.
