still no photos, sorry. i'm at an internet cafe that wanted to hook my camera up and scan it for viruses before they'd let me upload. And they said because the card was so big it would take an hour. For serious.
So... walked out of lunch yesterday and the rain had stopped so we decided to go for a walk in the woods. Only the woods is jungle and I was wearing sandals. Oh, well. Tried to turn up a trail that in the end was really just a drainage line with a signpost, totally not happening. Instead walked down to a road and at 3pm decided we didn't have time to walk the trail back up again before dark, took the road to town instead. 10 minutes later we see a sign, "Tanah Rata 9k." It was going to rain any minute, to boot. We started walking and this super kind couple stopped and just offered us a ride- without being hailed.
today we hiked in a group for 3 hours up a hill through the jungle to see what we're told is the world's largest species of flower. Yes, photos coming. I was about ankle deep in jungle mud and it was rather smooshy. We saw large millipedes and other bits of too-much-nature. Then we visited a "real" "native" village, which I was later told had moved down the hill closer to the road so that they could collect money from guides showing the tourists "native" life. Srsly.
tomorrow AM, a bus to the Perhentian islands. No phone or interwebs there, just snorkeling and beach.

Did you enjoy the smell of the flower? :) If you missed out on the smell, consider yourself lucky.
