How the guys suckered me into the midnight to 4am driving shift- the only one that featured all the combined glory of twisty PA turns, rain, fog, construction, and crappy visibility- I'll never know. Since all I could see were the next 4 lane line reflectors, I imagined us playing Ms. Pac Man, gobbling them up. No matter now, though, after 2 hours of sleep and dreams of driving to NJ, our mission's success was celebrated with the kind of diner breakfast that guarantees enough trips to the bathroom to rid me of even one ounce of extra weight. Yeah.
I guess it's slowly sinking in that this isn't really a race- it's a display being put on at the 4500-seat Miller Lite Outdoor Entertainment Arena (with requisite beer garden) for which we're the main attraction. I might wear a bikini, I might wear wings, depends on whether the rain lets up. Did I mention that we're in the arena that on Sunday will be filled with demolition derby? What a strange, strange trip.
