It's like a "Get Out of Monday Free" card.

It's Tuesday, and I didn't even have to work yesterday.

Ben's new skinsuits came on Friday. Isn't he cute? He flatted at a bandit race this weekend, it's regluing time again. I started peeling and stretching and he stopped me. "I don't want it to be your fault if it rolls." Um, hi. It WON'T roll if I do it, that I know. But whatever makes you happy. I forgot how much every little thing in CX season makes me feel completely incompetent, when it's really just people being their odd selves. He doesn't mistrust me, he just wants to do it himself. Like me and pudding pops.

Ben and I are both feeling a somewhat destructive yet indifferent malaise toward cycling lately. Too much trainer time, too many intervals. So instead of loading up bikes yesterday, we took the dog to the trails at Palos. Yes, we WALKED on the trails, with our feet, like suckers. Actually, we took every trail that said "no bikes" or was unmarked, wandered around, got a bit lost, and found some awesome stuff out there. That was totally worth it.

I pre-reg'd as Sport for Treadfest. Kinda nervous about that one. I don't think men/anyone who doesn't race trail really gets that, since there are only 3 categories for women, they're really different. Sport women are FAST. I would never in my wildest dreams even think of riding with 3's on the road, but I'll give it a shot on trail? Eh? Vamos a ver.

I was seriously considering trying the road race in Willow Springs this Saturday, too, till I saw that it's $35, $45 day of. WTF is up with that? That calculates to more than $1.50/mile. Now I'm just "lightly" considering it. I don't think I'm in an income bracket or competitive on the road to justify that.

Does the ICA has their mitts in the soup if the race is $45? I dont get it either. I just hope the increase in race fees transfers into something useful beyond "we support this or that initiative in cycling." talk is cheap, and the races are not anymore.

julie - those feelings of being incompatent - it's BS. i think men are just intimidated to see a woman working in the pit. i mean, let's face it. how many women do you see working on bikes? NOT ENOUGH!

(i know i am totally guilty of having d do everything for me and my bikes).
