Yesterday, to honor our veterans, I "ripped" a nice loop of trail at Palos. I would have liked to go longer, but Ben tagged along with Molly and they were just walking around the trails. (He slammed his bike into a tree while we were out at Palos last weekend, breaking off a brake lever, a replacement for which is out of stock till Nov 20.) So I called it quits after 13 mi: the race loop, out n' back, cemetery hill. The piles of leaves on Cemetery Hill make it almost impossible to see where the trail goes unless you've been there before and have an idea where it's going. I'm proud to say that, finally, I do.
Tuesday night I took the Spot in to Cycle Smithy, hoping to get the headtube faced so that the headset cups would sit right and stop their darn creaking. They repressed the headset and solved the problem, no facing needed. I also ordered new Specialized shoes to replace my crappy MTB ones, and got some Specialized gloves that don't have holes in them. And socialized with 20+ of my teammates, which is always fun. And then got home at midnight.
And then, last night, HAC women's CX practice. I even made barriers that disassemble for transport, at a total cost of less than $10. We rode loops around the schoolyard for 45 min, then ate chili, drank beer, and watched Glee. I could get used to this "practice" thing. Especially the beer part.
