With the workouts slipping away...

I used to do a solid 5 workouts a week. (Or more.) Then I had a baby. Suddenly the number went down. Ben had plans so there was nobody to watch Elliot. 4. I only slept 5 hours last night. 3. My parents are in town this weekend and haven't seen the boy in weeks. 2?

It's hard getting used to this. Working out just isn't a high priority when some other creature's life is at the top of the list. But I'm staring down a weekend- after a 1-workout week- where I want to do a long trainer ride and a 10 mile run. But my folks are in town, and a friend has a big anniversary this weekend, and Ben's out of town so I need to find someone to watch E, and... ugh.

I'm to a point where a 3 workout week isn't the end of the world, as long as 2 are long. But a 2 workout week?

I'm starting to wonder about the March half. I'm down to one run a week, and that's the long run. Is it enough, coupled with ballet and a long trainer ride? I guess we'll see.

I definitely feel your pain. Now granted, my kids are 7 and 3... but they require attention and deserve it, so I am currently struggling with the guilt of not getting in the good workouts and "doing the time." It's a mental struggle.... but we'll get there.

I just have to think of my beautiful children who are only young once... and it makes it worth it.

You are doing your best--don't be too hard on yourself! This is all still new.

Maybe your parents would like some time with E on their own?

Hang in there! It will get better (I am promised). In the meantime I think you should congratulate yourself for balancing as well as you do. As for the half marathon, you can always turn it into a fun run, run-walk it, or even walk it. Just doing a half marathon (no matter how you finish) is a great accomplishment as a new mother.
