the leader is good.

sleep deprivation, lack of daylight exposure, low-protein meals, and obscene amounts of coffee are really, really not a good combination. if someone was filming this as a reality show, they'd get some great footage. forreal. at least i get out to run in the morning, see the ocean, and get a taste of what i'm surrounded by. it's scary to think that i'm one of the more level-headed folks about.

i was determined to put on my bikini at least once while on the island, and last night at 10pm, a coworker and I grabbed a 6-pack at the corner store and headed for the pool for a short swim. there. done.

another beach run this morning. with every mile i run on the beach, i get faster at it. it's still painful to watch the 11:30's roll by, but hey, it's better than last week's 12:30. i'm really hoping that coming back to Chicago, getting out of the humidity and back on the street I'll not only be back at my old pace but a little bit faster. I had somewhat forgotten that 5k race staring me down on saturday. my goal is to get in under 28:00. that would be a nice improvement off both the marathon and 8k paces.

Despite being 20 minutes from the beach when we lived in Clearwater, I don't think I ever ran more than .5 mile on the beach. I might have tried once or twice but it kicked my butt and intimidated me too much. It's a heck of a workout!
