Good luck to Chris, Rachael, and anyone else riding 24-9 this weekend... go fast, be safe, have FUN!
this morning made clear to me: i can run fine in heat. it's humidity that kicks my ass.
Yesterday I decided that planning on running a marathon three weeks after our wedding and traveling one weekend before cross season starts was a bad idea. The Chicago Half is that day, so just to have something to stay motivated about, I was thinking about that, but I'm already doing the CDC and it's $65 and it's about the same route. Whatever. This falls into the category of "sanity now!" I think i'm out for a fall mary.
Anyway... I decided to cut today's workout to 13. Stepped outside at 9 am, 7 hours after getting home from Vegas, and it felt like a steam bath. Not hot, just sticky. By 2 miles in water was beaded all over me. It sucked. Molly trucked through 5 miles (with two water stops) before I dropped her home, then made the Tour de WaterFountains through Tri-Taylor till 10 miles in I called it quits. I did down one of those caffienated gu packs around mile 8, and somehow turned in a mile that was a minute below half marathon pace. Those things work.
So, another failed long run. That's two weeks in a row. OK, last week I set myself up for failure. Today I have no excuse. I'm just getting lazy, I guess. Saturday and Sunday I'll be officiating at the Tour of Elk Grove and then Monday AM it's back to Vegas, where it may be 99 degrees but at least I can turn out a sub 10:00-mile workout.

It wasn't a failed long run cuz you got it done Julie.
Rest up. I think you need to give your legs a break and just chill this weekend. Ride some or something. You are burnt out on running maybe?

Amen to that. Chicago summers are so brutal in that way; we need to get some dry heat at least to even it all out! Regardless, you finished what you started, so all the respect in the world for that!
