Well, it's time to get serious as the assistant/wrench of a rising star and figure out what the hell we're doing. I'm spending a little time reading tech guides, checking when and how we register and get our passes for events, and making sure we don't completely eff it all up with the little things.
I'm laughing my little butt off (ok, not so little) about the Cross Vegas technical guide. Little gems like:
"1.8.2 Unauthorized Refreshments (UCI Rule 12.1.040:50) Riders receiving unauthorized refreshments will be disqualified." (There go last year's pizza handups.)
"1.8.3 No alcohol is permitted on the racecourse or technical area"
(Dammit, why'd they have to include "technical area?" That means me too. Jerks.)
"1.9 Pit and Bike Washing Area: No bike wash is available (or necessary)."
(Har har har, desert folks just had to add that necessary line, didn't they?)
Either way, I read it. You should always read the tech guide for races you ride or work, ya? And now I know, and now I won't get Ben disqualified because of my love of beer.
I also now know that festivities are going down at the Sands Convention Center, which is behind the Palazzo, not at Mandalay Bay like Ben had suggested. Too bad I booked us in Excalibur, huh? Woulda gone for TI and those sexxxy sirens had I known. Meh, live n' learn. We'll run to the Sands. Just to show them.
And speaking of running... my first 5 since the wedding this morning, averaging, oh, :30 a mile slower than before the wedding. Hey, it was worth it for the swim-up bar pina coladas. I'm starting to look at spring marathons, thinking either Flying Pig or Madison or both. Ben wants to run Bay to Breakers with me, and I'm totally down for that. I guess my goal for fall is to stay above 25 miles per week, probably with a 5-5-5-10+ or so. We'll have to see how I can fit in long runs with the cx travel.

Hey, do you guys have creds for the show? If you work my booth for a short bit, or at least spread some WBR love, I can get you in -- I've got room on my list.
Thanks, Chris! I believe Ben worked his magic with a friend so we should be set, but the offer's greatly appreciated!
Do the Pig Julie! Come on! You can totally crash at my house which is just 4 miles from the starting line! Or we can all stay in a lush downtown hotel for fun!
Is Bay to Breakers a full marathon? I thought that was the race everyone ran naked. I can remember it when I lived there.
Do the Flying Pig. I'll even come down that weekend and find places along the course to hassle you.
