Prices are each-way for domestic flights and assume your bicycle is properly boxed/packaged and is more than 62 linear inches but under 50lb.

American: $100 + $15 fee for first checked bag = $115

Frontier: $50
Jet Blue: $50
Northwest: $100

US Airways: $100
This just reinforces my desire to figure out a way to fit a bike into a golf club-shaped bag, which, of course, always flies free. Jerks. Luckily Ben's flying mostly on free tickets, because this all basically adds up to the cost of a full plane ticket anyway. Maybe next time we'll just buy another seat for the bikes? It's cheaper in some circumstances, and would mean an extra free drink and bag-o-pretzels for Ben...

the extra seat idea is a good one, but I think bikes fall into the oversized luggage category (extra fee), don't they, and wouldn't be treated as regular bags? that's how united treated them when I used to fly with bikes....maybe it's changed.
No, Amy, the idea is that the bike would sit in the plane seat, since that's cheaper than checking it.

Id try to recover the costs in handouts on the plane. I bet you could find a way to take 9000 packs of pretzels, that would show them.
duh, I totally missed what you meant! I didn't know you could bring a bike in the cabin. I thought you meant to use the seat's luggage allotment!!
well, I know people buy seats for musical instruments, so I guess why not a bike....?
i'll just have to check with the TSA to make sure chainrings aren't considered weapons. (cellos, on the other hand, those things are vicious)
OH! I have the solution! Ben should race on FOLDING bikes. Time to buy him a nice bike friday, cx edition.
