I knew it was coming. In the 2006 midterm elections work sent me to Columbus, OH for 12 weeks to work for the Democrats. This year, a combination of lots of time on the road in Vegas and the recent wedding meant they'd hold off, but I just got the email. 10/17 till election day, Milwaukee, leading the canvass.
This is always tough. There goes the USGP in Louisville, for sure. What about the 5k I promised Amanda I'd run with her? The halloween parties? Our team's membership meeting? All the other thing speckling the calendar? Vamos a ver. It's a pain, for sure, but I do the work I do because I believe in it and I know nothing happens unless someone makes it happen. So, I'll put everything else on the back burner and go help.

Turns out the car repairs topped $1000 but the little Jetta is back home. Ben can't miss another minute of work, though, so he was up at 4:30 this morning to try to be in the office by 6am to make up the time he missed collecting the car yesterday and the time he will miss in Cinci on Friday. I took the opportunity to do a longer run - 10 miles. It feels good to know that, although I haven't run 10 since before the wedding, I can still just get up on any given day and make it happen.
Ben turned to me at 4:30am and said, "This will not make me fast." He's right. Long days of work to pay for the trips to races make the races even harder. The deck is so stacked against you when you're not Pro.

Sorry to hear that. at least it's Milwaukee, relatively close.
That obviously is disappointing to hear on one hand, but in the other, the work you're doing is more important.
I've come to the conclusion that life is a balance -- things pay for other things. Too much of a good thing is bad too so always left wanting or needing is good, to me at least.
In regards to Ben's comments, no, it won't, but again, look at how far he's come in such a short period of time. Don't take that for granted.
Nothing worthwhile ever comes easy.
