We load up the car tonight with Tim and Devon to roll to the OVCX. (Ben doesn't like to travel on race days.) Don't forget, Chicagoans, there's a one hour time change so plan accordingly if you're driving tomorrow! I'm extra excited because there's a 4mile trail run on the CX course Sunday morning... so it's a race weekend for me too, and I'll finally get to run with Judi. And we're all looking forward to our favorite source of grits n' hashbrowns: waffle house.
We have altered the game plan just slightly to take in the nutrition advice. Nothing in the pit will change. The hub on the B bike is finally fixed, and I need to tune the shifting on both, but aside from that we're ready to roll.
Ben's been working long days, missing workouts, in order to get tomorrow off. It's been hard to watch. It's like... you can't give him a hard time for it, since he needs to get the work hours in and have a livelihood. But it sort of hurts. There are sacrifices we're just not ready to make - like losing his income, which would mean losing our place - that just create mountains that he has to overcome to get to where the guys are who do make those sacrifices. Even without giving that up, the racing is stretching the salt water taffy of budget, time, and sanity really thin, to the point where we sometimes lose sight of how tasty it was in the first place.

Julie - now I am super psyched to see you. The run is definitely on!
I wish you had that unlimited income so Ben could train all day long.
have a great time this weekend!
I have always thought it would be a good idea if more companies would offer the option to scale back to 30 or even 20 hours at different times in people's lives when their life circumstances call for it, instead of pretty much insisting that everyone except for new moms put in what are considered "full-time" hours. I realize that there are part-time jobs available, but not for many types of positions, especially at more advanced levels. Does this exist and I just don't know about it?
