Yesterday I went back on doors and I just can't describe the Obama effect. White folks from out of town are welcomed in poor Black Milwaukee neighborhoods with open arms, cheers, thank-you's. We are all in this together, and we know it. For me alone...
- At 14th and Keefe, a young man wrote an impromptu rap about Obama and "painting the white house black and the nation blue."
- At 24th and Capitol, a bored kid asked how he could help. I gave him some door hangers, and he worked with me for three blocks.
- At 41st and Roosevelt, after I told her that we're expecting lines at the polls, a woman sang out in her best church choir voice as if she had practiced the song, "Barak is worth the wait."
- A kid at Florist and Teutonia told me not to worry, "Obama already won the election." I inquired further. "We all voted at my school on Friday and he won by one hundred percent!"
- I've been offered full dinners, housing, gas money, fresh pie, and prayers at people's doors.

Dang. That's pretty incredible -- Milwaukee is still one of the MOST segregated cities in the country -- it hasn't been that long since a white friend of mine was carjacked/abducted and driven through that neighborhood having to listen to death threats.
YES WE CAN!
I voted today. :)
electoral votes looking good right now.
Nice work. It's a good feeling being a part of something this big. Obama has some talent in the pit.
Yes we did.
