I'm very bad at skipping things.

I was going to skip last night's workout. Then something happened that made me sad, and I knew I'd only get sadder if I saddled myself with the guilt of knowing I missed a workout. I'm very bad at skipping things. So I did the workout. Leaving the building, my head was so in the clouds that I came close to having a catastrophe moment with a pillar in the garage. I managed to avoid it using my finely-tuned bouncing-off-trees skills, but my wrist still hurts from that one. Duh.

Last night I learned that I don't have the attention span for long tempo workouts. It goes like this: ride - start thinking about something else - gizmo bleeps because I'm going too slow - ride. Or, depending, sometimes it goes like this: ride - start thinking about something that pisses me off - gizmo bleeps because I'm going too fast - ride. The little graph of the workout is hilariously roller-coaster-like. I did run into Josh and Val on the path, though, for a little social time. Val's part of the National Champion Women's 6 Day team, congrats! (Sorry I was grumpy. Bad day.)

Two more workouts before vacation - tonight's ride and tomorrow's AM run. In just a month or so, Coach Bob has somehow managed to make my legs turn from running-shaped to riding-shaped, a transformation so blatant that even Ben noticed. I feel strong. With nearly two weeks away from both running and riding, though, we'll see what's ahead. Travel is far more important than this sporty crap anyway.

I'm 24 hours away from takeoff, and Molly knows it.

I'm the same way. I lose focus. Even in a race. I think about stuff like bread or what my kids are doing.
