Too hard.

A coworker took me to try out the trails at Scales Lake. He promised a 6 mile loop that was "fairly easy," his wife described it as "intermediate technical - lots of roots." I can handle roots, so I felt like it should be no big deal.

uh.

Yeah, so it was awesome at first but just totally full of the world's scariest ravines- sharp drops to steep loose uphills. Lots of em. So steep that at the top my "O sh!t" instinct began to engage, and I walked a few. Hot damn. Coworker and his wife killed 'em - so much so that wife totally dropped us - and I'm trying to run through them without falling.

Why am I such a durn chicken?

Anyway, that was totally embarrassing. At least when I ride alone I can session it or skip it at my own pace without slowing others down. I didn't go out for a second lap. Either way, my legs were still cranky from yesterday's "hill" repeats - 10 times over the 47th street hill on the Lake Front Path - so it's ok that I cut this one short.

I so understand how you feel. :-P I'd be right there too, scrambling down (or up) the ravine!
