Also known as, when do I finally get to sleep in?
It's been more than 8 months since I got on a training schedule this year. First running through snow and sleet, then rain. Then riding on the lake front path in traffic, dripping sweat on a trainer, doing hill repeats on the sledding hill, other not-fun things. I'm good at keeping my head down and just doing it. But I'm just about done, and mentally, I'm pretty much done. It's making me cranky.
I do declare that MY off-season starts the day after Chequamegon. Any racing that happens this fall will be strictly for the beer of it. I hope to gain 234897 pounds, lose all fitness, and make Big Sure a mere pipe dream. Then, starting in mid-December, I'll get back on the horse.
I can see it coming, and I know what I'm going to do with those mornings and evenings that won't be filled with sweat and frustration. I can't wait.

Good for you! Makes my heart happy.
Ease off on the intensity and the number of training days. When I feel like I'm burned-out and sick of putting on kit and riding the same road every day (Sheridan on weekends/LFP during the week), I let my bike sit and I just walk or spend my mornings doing a simulation of yoga.
By day 3 or 4, I'm ready to start back up.
Off-days should be off. Recovery rides and runs are bullshit. :)
On the plus side, you can see the effects of all your hard work. I haven't seen you much in the last few months due to all the insanity, and you looked completely amazing the other night. Congrats on totally kicking butt - it's an inspiration.
I think I might join you in your off season....and do all my fall races for the beer of it too. That sounds like an amazing idea.
what zach said.
