Elliot finally decided that he likes to sleep. This is a decision he came to after we introduced him to the Miracle Blanket, bought him a more firm mattress, and started dimming the lights at home at 7pm. Five months in to this great parenting adventure, we're now up only at ~1am and ~5:30am each day. It's life-changing. I have woken up this week not feeling like I've been hit by a truck. I'm starting to think I may be able to go back to morning workouts sometime this millenium. And Elliot is just so happy. All smiles and giggles and squeals. I wish we had figured this out sooner... and I just hope it stays.
Meanwhile, the new bike isn't built just yet. Started in on it only to find my plans foiled at every turn. Like, XX rotors need a special kind of centerlock adapter. And I don't have a shim for my front derailler. And either way I got a bottom pull but my frame demands a top-pull. And the saddle I want is still out of stock. And my shifters came with cables but not housing. You know, road blocks. It's ok though, the trails are probably a muddy mess anyway.
Last weekend I ventured out with some awesome ladies for Ray's Women's Weekend. I had planned to ride Fri and Sat but work foiled that plan, throwing me into a 14 hour workday on Sat instead. Friday was a great time, though. I rode a BMX'er half the day and pretty much mastered the pump track, then traded in for a 26er and rode the sport skills section and xc loop. I was far less timid than usual, which made me pretty happy. Then we went to fish fry and polka and it was quite awesome. It was all a great time, and I'm hoping to go back for more this weekend.
Sunday I ran 12 miles. Very, very slowly. My pace on these runs is hovering in the 11:15-11:30 neighborhood, and I can't expect to get any faster running just one time a week (long runs only). So, as long as I can handle those hills (which is a big IF) I should be able to beat last year's time. Whatever. It's like that first marathon I ran- if you're not training for pace/time, you can't get pissed when you miss a pace/time goal. Time to just let go and finish it.
