Monday, January 5

begin again.

So much for the off-season. Today opens Marathon Training v.2.1, and thankfully day 1 is a rest day. Monday is always rest day. I sort of overworked last week, with 6 days in a row of workouts, a run-trainer-run-trainer-run-trainer week, with the trainer workouts more than an hour long and at more than 170 bpm average. Ouch. I'll be doing Novice 2, since I want two days off a week. I don't top 10 miles for 4 weeks, which is nice. The first few weeks are very, very manageable. But I know what's coming.

I'll put it in writing, too. I want to run 10:30's. That's a full minute a mile faster than my (injured, deathly slow) last marathon. It will be a 4:35 finish. To be fair, let's say my goal is a 4:40, 20 min faster than last time. Bring it. I'll readjust the goal pace after some longer runs but for now, pace is a 10:30.

We had a team meeting last night, and it was awesome. Great attendance, energized folks, everyone friendly. I'm totally psyched to ride with these people and I think it's going to be a great year for the team. 39 riders total, and we've all agreed that 40 is the cap.

I'm getting very upset over the happenings in Gaza. I'm still floored at the ongoing atrocities that all of the Western world seems to ignore. And here we have Israel slaughtering civilians and children, and we're letting them call it "self defense?" That's like if a kid threw a rock at you and you responded by launching grenades at him. Only, you stole the kid's milk money every day since the 1960's, and that's why he threw the rock at you in the first place. Mind boggling.

Hasn't Hamas slaughtered civilians and children? Neither side can claim a moral high ground.

Could you honestly say that if Mexico was tossing rockets into the US you would be against us reacting? (and it is a good analogy, we did take land and rights and freedoms from the Mexicans just the same way Israel did from the Palestinians.)

The Western world ignores it because we are sick of it. They have been killing each other for sixteen hundred years and before that it was the Jews and Christians and other religions going at it. Does anyone actually think there will ever be peace in the region?

The only way you'll get that is when one side completely wipes out the other side. And even then you probably won't get peace because the various sects will start warring with each other.

One side or the other is not causing it. The entire region's religious intolerance is causing it.

I knew I'd hear from you on that one, goat. But I'm not going to get much deeper into this.
