computrainer time.

I made pie Tuesday night. I like pie.

One of our team's new 2009 sponsors, Element Multisport, has 6 computrainers hooked up as a group. Yesterday, I lugged the fish over to join my teammates and "lose" the 6-way "race," but I sure did learn a lot. Like, singlespeeding on a those things SUCKS. (My front derailer's been frozen for months and yesterday a cable problem that I later easily fixed rendered my rear derailer useless.) It also makes me work far harder than I've been lately - pushing a 173 average HR for nearly an hour. Yowsa. If I can continue to get there once a week, I'll be a far better climber come spring.

But I'm also somewhat obsessing over wanting a road bike. Seems kind of silly to hook a Rivendell up to a computrainer, and even sillier to think about going to training camp on one. Given the option of a spring vacation or a new bike, though, I'm doing the easy thing- nothing for now.

last year was fantastic, as things go, and next year we're going to have our first Black president and a shot at undoing the dammage that jerkface has done in the last 8 years. (because my job is tied to politics, this matters a lot to me.) but last night was strangely subdued and uneventful. we all know what's up. the economy's bad and getting worse and those of us who haven't been hit hard yet are feeling the sword of Damocles. it's going to get worse before it gets better.

NYE was indeed...different...weird...subdued for sure.

I had to look up the sword of Damocles - that is a good way to put the feeling of "what next?"

Amy, I think of the sword more as, when things seem good, there's this fear of the inevitable trouble around the corner. It's like... you know it's coming and there's nothing you can do about it.

Sweet hookup on the computrainers. If you are able to get some solo time (instead of hooked up on multirider) you can get really high quality intervals in.
