Finally got the MTB together. The THIRD centerlock adapter came and was once again the wrong part (even though I ordered the right one) so we borrowed a "normal" (i.e. not XX) rotor and called it a day. Got in 90 min of trail time and didn't have to take the tool out of my pocket once-- everything felt great, worked great, was just RIGHT. It's a very fine machine and feels quite zippy. It's all that I could have wanted.
On the way home, though, a roof rack failure resulted in the bike, riding rear-facing, swiveling around on its steerer and landing with the rear wheel on the car's rear window. The chainrings had a few things to say to the paint and metal of our rear door (which responded in kind, bending the big ring) and the brake lever broke off at the clamp. So after months of slowly getting this together, it's back apart. I didn't get to ride on mother's day. I really hope to get it back together in time for Stump Farm, but locating an XX brake lever-- without having to buy the whole mad-expensive caliper setup-- may not prove easy.
Had a swell day on Sunday anyway, with a tasty brunch and then a field trip with Audrey and Elliot to Graceland Cemetery. What a lovely spot.
Didn't make it to Indy to run that half. Meh, wasn't meant to be.
